(The previous guidance didn’t address anyone younger than 50.) People ages 60 or older are now advised not to start taking aspirin to prevent first heart attacks or strokes.

The draft recommendations don’t apply to people who have already had heart attacks or strokes; the task force still recommends that they take aspirin preventively.
